Originally designed for a small movie theater located in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil. At the time only 14 items were manufactured and 1 with incomplete structure was kept for Sergio's collection. Old photographs discovered at the Instituto Sergio Rodrigues, along with the remaining structure, made it possible to reconstruct the original design. The name is an homage to his friend and executive director of the Institute, Renata Aragão.
Lightweight armchair, designed for a small movie theater of an entertainment pavilion located at Fazenda do Cachoeirão, in the south of Minas Gerais. At the time only 14 items were manufactured for the client and one for Sergio's collection whose structure was incomplete in the storage of his studio. The old photographs found at Instituto Sergio Rodrigues and the remaining structure made it possible to recover the project that appears for the first time in the market. Sergio called the armchair "Renata" to honor his friend and executive director of Instituto Sergio Rodrigues, Renata Aragão.
Sergio Rodrigues
Sergio Rodrigues (1927–2014) is the biggest name in national furniture design, known in Brazil and abroad as the creator of genuinely Brazilian furniture. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he understood the meaning of the word design as a child when conceiving and making his own cars, soldiers and airplanes. Graduated in 1952 from the National Faculty of Architecture of Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, Sergio bet from the beginning on the creation of furniture that accompanied the innovation of Brazilian architecture, which in the 1950s gained worldwide notoriety. Sergio believed that furniture should reflect the culture of its origin and provide the comfort appropriate to the climate and our more relaxed way of living, at a time when strictly functional furniture and international design were valued. During his sixty-year career, he created about 1,200 models that equipped palaces, government offices, diplomatic representations, hotels, theaters, companies and residences. The diversity of his work is centered on the ability to understand the needs of each architectural space and design from the resources available on each occasion, delivering furniture with grace and soul.
