Grant Featherston (1922–1995) was an Australian furniture designer whose chair designs in the 1950s became icons of the Atomic Age. Born in Geelong, Victoria, Featherston was a self-taught designer who worked in lighting and glass panels before specializing in furniture. Featherston went against the trends of the time to create utterly unexpected designs. And, whilst many designers can be credited with innovative and unique furniture designs, few can take credit for developing new forms and shapes in the way Grant Featherston did. Today, Featherston’s furniture remains in high demand at public auctions. His style has become renowned not only as an exceptional piece of furniture, but also as works of art.
The iconic Featherston Scape dining chair is a tapered metal tube chair frame with a powder coat finish and brass feet with a fully upholstered contoured ply seat and back-rest. Made in Melbourne, under exclusive license by Gordon Mather Industries for Grazia & Co.
