Alky Chair by Giancarlo Piretti for Artifort, 1970s
A pair of beautiful Giancarlo Piretti “Alky” chairs reupholstered in luxurious off-white wool-cotton blend fabric produced by a highly recognised textile manufacturer Chase Erwin from England.
Alky chairs were designed in 1968 and produced by either Castelli or Artifort.
Due to timeless design and simplicity as well a comfortable seats and soft rounded lines that chairs gives a luxurious character to any interior. We are not surprised that they have recently gained a lot of interest again due to their easy integration with most interiors. Beautiful organic curves reminiscent of Pierre Paulin designs.
Condition:
The chairs are newly refinished and reupholstered in off-white wool-cotton blend fabric produced by luxurious, English fabric manufacturers, Chase Erwin. The metal floor glides naturally do show signs of wear.
Beautifully restored “Alky” lounge chair produced by Artifort and designed by Giancarlo Piretti (also known for the Plia and Plona chairs).
The Alky chair was conceptualised in 1968 and has seen lately renewed interest due to its easy integration in most interiors: With its comfortable sit, soft curved lines and small footprint this is to us not a surprise!

About the Designer:
Giancarlo Piretti
As a prolific designer with a great creativity, he designed several iconic pieces of furniture: the “Alky” low chair (1969), the “Plia” chair (1969) and the “Plona” seat (1970). His “Piretti Collection” line presented in 1988 at the NeoCon in Chicago is really incredible. During his career, the designer received many rewards for the Piretti Collection: the pizeces IBD, ASIS, Compasso d’Oro and G-Mark. You can find his designs in many museums, including MoMA in New York
Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He still lives and works in Bologna with his son, designer Alessandro Piretti.
