Description:

The unusual beauty of the Rio table, matched by its functionality make it a veritable work of art. 

The six segments, made in solid wood, each with a different radius, offset from each other, create 

a jagged outer edge, while the hole in the centre evokes a centre of gravity.

Currently available in just one size, the Rio low table was originally created by Charlotte Perriand as two. 

Between 1962, the year she designed the piece and 1967, Charlotte Perriand made a larger version intended 

for the Japanese embassy in Paris.

Charlotte Perriand designed the Rio table in two different sizes. The re-edition that Cassina proposes today is from the 

first 1962 project, the home of Jacques Martin in Rio, Brazil, which also included a long bench in the same materials, 

Viennese straw and wood. Between 1962 and 1967 Charlotte Perriand adapted this table for the Japanese Embassy in Paris 

enlarging its measurements.Rio is made up of six staggered segments of different radii, an outer edge in solid wood and a 

central hole which becomes the centre of its spatial gravity.The unusual beauty of this table makes it a decorative object for 

the home as well as a functional piece of furniture.

CONSTRUCTION:  Natural or stained oak base with vienna straw or marble top.

DESIGNEDER: Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand was a French architect and designer. Her work aimed to create functional living spaces in the 

belief that better design helps in creating a better society.When Perriand was just twenty-four years old, she began 

a decade-long collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.Her presence in the Le Corbusier studio is visible 

in all the furnishings designed with him and with Pierre Jeanneret: and so Charlotte Perriand becomes a cornerstone 

in the reformation project promoted by the architect, adding a distinct dimension of humaneness to the often cold 

rationalism of Le Corbusier.
