Leda is an armchair with structure in varnished polished brass casting. Bd Barcelona design produces and markets, world-exclusively, the designs by SALVADOR DALÍ. In 2009 we commemorated the 20th Anniversary of the death of Salvador Dali and Bd wished to add its special homage by producing a special limited edition of his fantastic furniture collection. All the finishing’s are based on black, with aged black patina on the casted brass, Black Marquina marble for the famous egg, darkened gold leaf and dyed lime wood satin in black for the upholstery and lingerie chiffon, also black for the lamp shades. Refined materials and handcrafted manufacturing to bring up to date a furniture collection thatBd has sold exclusively all over the world since the 90s, guaranteed by The Gala Salvador Dali Foundation responsible for the painter’s rights. The black label collection comes to market in a limited edition of 105 piezes (the age of Dali in 2009).
Leda chair designed by Salvador Dalí is a reproduction by BD Barcelona Design, entirely made of polished cast brass varnish or black patina without varnish (Black Label Limited Edition).
During the '30s in Paris, Salvador Dalí sorrounded himself with a circle of friends involved in the application of art to varied disciplines, above and beyond the study of pure pictorial art. Jean-Michel Frank, a furniture maker and decorator of recognized prestige in the Paris of those years, was on very good terms with Dalí and together they worked on several ideas.
In the 1990s a group of experts, led by Oscar Tusquets, set themselves the task of turning the furniture Dalí had drawn for Jean-Michel Frank into reality. Among these items were the Leda chair and low table, taken from the painting "Femme à la tête rose" (1935). The prototypes were made by the sculptor Joaquim Camps and BD Barcelona Design organised production and exclusive world marketing, guaranteed by The Gala Salvador Dali Foundation responsible for the painter’s rights.
Dalí affirmed: “A chair can be used even to sit on, but only on one condition: That we sit uncomfortably.” We can sit on the Leda, but due to the fact that it only has three legs and that the chair is heavy, it being made of solid brass, is more a work of art than a functional piece of furniture.
