H 86 x W 170 x D 56 cm
Sculptural rocking chaise longue in black painted laminated wood frame, brass fittings, and original tan leather upholstery with adjustable counterbalanced headrest. Designed in 1978 by famed Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, and manufactured by Fasem in Italy, late 20th century.
Originally designed in 1978 by Oscar Niemeyer and his daughter Anna Maria Niemeyer, the Rio rocking chaise is exemplary of Niemeyer’s exquisite curves and sinuous forms made famous by his seminal modern architecture. Bearing an embedded seal certifying its authenticity by the Fundação Oscar Niemeyer, the Rio chaise re-edition is handcrafted from black-lacquered wood, caning and leather.
This 'Rio' sculptural rocking chaise lounge by Oscar Niemeyer for Fasem International was originally designed in 1978 and produced through this day by the same Italian maker. Featuring a sculptural frame crafted from open pore black varnished ash assembled with three rippled sections connected with large brass hardware and covered in leather upholstered padded cushion with an adjustable counterbalanced headrest. Signed with Fasem repeat fabric under the leather cushions.
