About the designer
Marcel Breuer
1902 - 1981
Marcel Breuer is a Hungarian iconic architect and designer from the 20th Century. He is one of the pioneers of the modern movement and one of the great names of the Bauhaus.
Marcel Breuer
In 1925, Breuer revolutionized the design world by using steel tube like the B3 armchair (or Wassily in tribute to Kandinsky) shows it. This armchair is legendary, because of its technical prowess and the functional approach of Breuer Biography Marcel Breuer was born in 1908 in Hungary. He briefly studied sculpture at the Academy of Vienne but he decided to stop his training. He went to Weimar and discovered the Bauhaus where he studied and taught. He was really appreciated for his talent, even if he was still young. During these years, he discovered tubular steel which became a real characteristic of his work. In 1937, he moved up to the United-States and began an architect career while continuing his designer work. Once again, he reached a great success thanks to an avant-gardist approach. Aluminum, steel, laminated wood, concrete… Breuer liked to try out materials to revolutionize design and architecture. He is one of the most important designers thanks to mythic and timeless creations.
