ray wilkes chiclet Sofa
Design Ray Wilkes, 1976
Steel, plywood, injection molded foam, upholstery
Made by Herman Miller
Playful design and serious comfort. Ray Wilkes designed this postmodern classic with playful curves and ample comfort. Originally introduced in 1976, the famous "Chiclet" sofa is engineered with injection foam molded cushions and a flexible steel frame.
A playful silhouette that appears to float. This postmodern design has been reintroduced in new fabrics and hues. Beautifully smooth contours give this piece a fluid, uniform appearance. Innovative injection foam molding technique creates smooth shapes with no waste.
Dubbed "Chiclet" due to its rounded-edge cushions that look like the classic gum. Steel brackets joining the seat and back allow for independent flex that provides a surprising level of individual comfort. Available in configurations from 1 to 3-seater. The geometry of the 105-degree angle of the seat and back provides a perfect pocket for comfortable sitting.
