HAY's Bernard lounge chair pairs a sturdy solid wood frame with a slip-on cover in either durable leather or marine canvas. The union of two contrary elements gives the chair a distinctive, lively appearance. Designed by Shane Scheck, Bernard is a fresh and contemporary lounge chair for multiple environments. The relaxed yet upright design of the chair looks great by any coffee table as well as in the corner of the bedroom, and it can also be used in pairs or groups.

In 2021, HAY renewed the surface treatments of its wood furniture by replacing the paints and lacquers with more environmentally friendly, water-based alternatives. This chair is of newer production and has been finished with a water-based lacquer.

Designer Shane Schneck was given the objective of creating a classically designed armchair with a modern appeal to last for future generations. With Bernard, he juxtaposed a solid-wood frame with a visually light cover to create a unique relationship between two materials. What results is a comfortable and durable chair that cradles the sitter, providing an effortless place to relax.

Shane's background in architecture informs his multidisciplinary approach that led him to Milan Italy in 1999 to collaborate with Piero Lissoni

The studio now based in Stockholm, has been presented at St. Etienne Design Biennale, Salone Satellite (*Wallpaper Best new group and Design Report nominee), Promosedia selection by Invitation and was recently awarded the IF Gold Award for Innovation.
