The Cutter chair is part of the new interesting 2020 products by B&B Italia. Born from the design of Mario Bellini, this chair wants to pay homage to the artist Lucio Fontana by showing off a striking cut in the center of the backrest. The cut is not exclusively visual, but also functional: the two edges of the backrest are left free to move independently, ensuring maximum comfort both in the frontal and lateral posture. The polyurethane padding, which covers the chair in its entirety, is covered with grained hide leather. A perfect synthesis of softness and rigor, as well as a clear example of the brand's desire to dare and experiment.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Cutter chair is characterised by a bold aesthetic. The back of the chair is slashed by a cut, as a tribute to the great artist Lucio Fontana: not just an aesthetic choice, but a detail generating a distinctive type of seating. Functional and comfortable in a frontal position, the backrest’s top sections move independently, making it also possible to sit sideways. Thus, users can chat with the person seated next to them, sitting informally while leaning on one side with an arm placed around the backrest. The upholstery and cover fully envelop the chair in thick full grain leather, creating an ideal combination of softness and rigour, underlined by saddle stitching. The central slash reveals an interior in refined Saffiano leather.

Although evident, Cutter’s nature does not only lie in an aesthetic choice but generates an unprecedented type of seating. The twin backrest’s ends are functional and comfortable in a frontal position, while moving independently and allowing a lateral position. This gesture is suitable for chatting with the person seated nearby. It is also designed to ensure high comfort seating and casual movements, allowing the user to lean on one side with an arm placed around the backrest. The seating frame is made of metal and webbing, softened by a classic polyurethane upholstery. To guarantee elasticity and strength to the double backrest, B&B Italia’s Research & Development Centre has opted for a sophisticated harmonic steel core. The upholstery and cover fully envelop the chair in embossed thick leather, creating an ideal synthesis of softness and rigour, underlined by saddle stitching. The central cut reveals an inner part in refined black Saffiano thick leather, as if Cutter’s soul peeps out from this dramatic opening.
